Health & Fitness: Memorial Day Means Barbecue Time!

Here is the scoop on eating healthy during the numerous barbecues you have ahead this summer.
Often time people tend to overeat at BBQ’s, but not you!  If you are trying to watch what you eat use these great tips:

1)    Start off with fresh fruit and/or tossed salad.
2)    Drink water with your meals, drinking alcohol, soda, or other drinks will add unnecessary calories.
3)    Choose poultry over beef.  Poultry tends to be leaner after you take off the skin (of course).
4)    Try vegetarian kabobs!
5)    Choose whole grain rolls!

Remember to be aware of your surroundings.  For example, if you are sitting near the big bowl of chips, you will be more likely to eat them.  Try settling down in a healthy area at the BBQ, such as near the fruit platter.  If sitting near the food isn’t an option, then try to sit far away from the table and the grill as possible so that you will be less likely to graze or go for seconds.  Enjoy and Happy Memorial Day!
